| Peter Stangel, Director of the Southern Partnership Program for the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, is based in Atlanta, Georgia. Peter helped launch the Pathways to Nature and Partners in Flight programs for the Foundation and oversees a portfolio of more than 450 bird conservation grants. Peter received B.S. in biology from Furman University and a Ph.D in ecology from the University of Georgia, where he studied the conservation genetics of the red-cockaded woodpecker, wood stork, snail kite and several other species. He is a former president of the Fairfax Audubon Society in Virginia and is on the boards of the Ornithological Council and Association of Field Ornithologists. He helped start the Migratory Bird Conservancy, Directory of Bird Festivals and Bird Conservation Magazine. Peter is an avid birder and is a regular contributor of conservation columns to the bimonthly Wildbird, Carolina’s Green and Birding Business magazines. |
